Home Treatments

Treating acne, especially if it’s a mild case doesn’t always have to mean a visit to the doctor, hospital, or dermatologist. There are several options that you can try in your own home to treat your acne, which may involve skincare products designed to help acne, over the counter tablets and creams, natural remedies, or homemade products.

Most of these suggestions are suitable for those with mild to moderate acne, though it’s worth remembering that every acne sufferer is different, and some products that are very effective for some people may not work as well for others. Although customer feedback can be very helpful, which product you ultimately choose will depend on your skin type, where your acne is located, the severity of the acne, and whether your skin is allergic to any of the ingredients in the products or home remedies.

Skincare products

There are quite a few brand names on the market aimed at clearing, treating, and/or preventing blemishes and acne. Many of these are specifically produced for whitehead and blackhead flare-ups, but there are some general treatment products available in the shops as well.

Clinique, Biore, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, and Dead Sea are some of the companies producing products that may help acne. Popular products include Clinique’s Anti Blemish Solutions Liquid Make-up (oil free foundation), Dead Sea’s Natural Black Mud Mask Soap and Biore’s  Complexion Clearing Pore Unclogging scrub.

Other products available

There are other natural and medical products available in chemists and health shops that may help treatment of acne. If budget isn’t an object, then the No! No! No! skincare system may be an option, as it allows you to safely use heat and light technology, though the combination of anti-bacterial/skin peeling medication might make creams such as Quinoderm equally as effective. Other options include treating the Acne with pure Tea Tree Oil or other tea tree based products, other creams such as Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy Skin Resurfacing or natural, non-addictive tablets from company brands like New Era who sell Cal-Sulph No3 to help acne and other skin problems.

Homemade treatments

There have been many articles written about the properties of certain herbs, spices and food items, that may be beneficial to people with skin problems, and equally the same amount has been written about homemade treatments that may help acne. Common amongst the recipes and suggestions are crushed peppermint leaves and juice, a scrub made from honey and oatmeal which is said to absorb oil and have anti-bacterial properties, and lemon juice mixed with rose water.

Treating acne at home may only be effective in mild cases and involve a bit of trial and error, but there are plenty of treatments and products available to try, that could improve the texture and appearance of your skin, unblock your pores, and in some cases remove the excess oil and bacteria that forms during an acne breakout.
