Blackheads
What
are blackheads?
Blackheads are
unsightly black spots that can pop up on your ears, nose,
chin and back. They often occur in groups or clusters
together. Blackheads are a form of non-inflammatory acne,
but when left alone will expand and grow and permanently
stretch the pore.
How do they
form?
Blackheads happen
when sebum, dead cells and bacteria drain into the
hundreds of tiny pores on our bodies and the skin
pigments turn black via oxidisation. These are often
mistaken for dirt, but this is a common misconception, it
is not dirt.
They usually taken on a yellow or black surface
colour, the material or substance inside them is keratin
and sebum, this is the oil-like substance that is excreted
from the sebaceous glands.
