What is acne rosacea?
Acne rosacea is a rare, long-term condition that affects the
skin and sometimes the eyes, it is a type of acne and can take
place on the fact and sometimes the upper body.
Symptoms
The symptoms of acne rosacea are;
- Pimples/spots/zits
- Redness
- Thickened
skin
- Flushing
- Pink bumps on
the skin
- Burning
sensations
- Nodules
Who does acne rosacea affect?
To give you a rough idea of the scale of the disease, around
14 million
people, both men and women, in the USA are affected by it. The
disease normally strikes between the ages of 30 and 60. Anyone is prone
to it, but fair skinned females seem to be the main
victims.
What are the causes of acne rosacea?
Currently, doctors and dermatologists are not quite yet
certain of what causes acne rosacea, but the common and
accepted reason for catching the disease in though inheriting
certain genes.
Some research has lead to the conclusion that it is cuased
when blood
vessels expand too much and easily and therefore result
in redness and flushing. Previous acne rosacea sufferers
believe that these factors have worsened their condition, but
bear in mind, everyone if different;
- Sunlight
- Heat exposure
- Extremely cold temperatures
- Vigorous excercise
- Alcohol consumption
- Spicy and hot beverages
- Prolonged use of steroids
- Emotional stress
- Menopause
Treatment for acne rosacea
Although, like acne, there is no cure for the disease, there
are some treatments to keep it at bay, you should visit your
dermatologist
for more information and treatment for acne rosacea.
Your dermatologist or doctor may give you some antibiotics,
such as metronidazle, which the patient can apply directly to
the affected area. But for a severe and advanced case of acne
rosacea, your doctor may prescribe you some oral antibiotics,
such as;
- erythromycin
- tetracycline
- doxycycline
- minocycline
Remember; to see
visible improvement could take weeks or months, but stick at it
and YOU WILL see improvements.
